Brakes Group Wins £200 Million Contract With Mitchells & Butlers

Brakes Group, a leading supplier to the food service sector in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden, has signed a seven years supply contract worth over £200m with Mitchells & Butlers, the UK’s leading restaurant and pub company. Brakes will deliver a single multi-temperature service for all food and consumables products to Mitchells & Butlers’ 1600 restaurants and pubs.

The logistics solution will support Mitchells & Butlers’ growth strategy enabling a significant increase in the size of its estate of leading food brands and growth in individual outlet like-for-like sales.

With an annual turnover of about £2.6b, Brakes Group comprises a family of specialist businesses, which are able to deliver everything the caterer needs, including the group’s own brand ranges developed specifically for chefs. Brakes Group family of specialist businesses includes: M&J Seafood; Pauleys (fresh produce); Prime Meats (the speciality butcher); La Boulangerie (bread and patisserie specialist) and Wild Harvest (supplying fine food for chefs).

In November, Compass Group UK & Ireland, which is part of Compass Group, the world’s leading food service company, awarded the UK’s largest ever catering distribution contract to Brakes. The groundbreaking agreement will commence in 2012 and means Brakes will be responsible for delivering over £300m worth of goods every year to 5,500 Compass sites across the UK. The contract is for a minimum of seven years and was signed following a competitive tender process. The agreement followed an extensive two year strategic review by Compass of its supply chain.
