Coonlocken Ltd, an Irish convenience packaging supplier, is making it their mission to make on-the-go snacking easier for busy consumers and more lucrative for retailers. The packaging company conducted recent research in the yogurt market to establish the effect on yogurt sales when one of their fully recyclable spoons was attached to a yogurt pot. The conclusions were startling.

Yogurts sales were monitored in the front of the store in the “grab and go” chiller. The trial was done in a busy convenience store in an area full of work commuters in a rush. The four week trial was split into two parts; during the first half the products were displayed without Coonlocken’s spoon, the second half the spoon was clearly visible.

The findings showed a massive 96% increase in yogurt sales when theirspoon was attached to the pot. So what doesthis mean for retailers? You can expect a major increase in sales of an on-the-go yogurt product with Coonlocken’s spoon attached. Also consumers are more likely to buy a product that they can easily eat enroute to work, at their desk, or out and about.

With these startling results, Coonlocken designed a new small folding spoon specifically for the yogurt market. This spoon is available for automatic high speed application, in a lid to suit any yogurt pot size or for manual application.

With the lid and spoon option, Coonlocken can offer a high resolution artwork label. This can incorporate a bar code, so it will allow the store achieve a higher price point when compared to the pots without the lid and spoon. This can also offset any add on costs.

Harvey Tucker, Sales Director at Coonlocken Ltd, says; “We always felt a spoon should be offered with yogurts. Personally I struggle to find a healthy fast-snack option during the day on the way to or from meetings. Healthy snacks, or treats, you can easily eat on-the-go is such an unexploited market. This lid and spoon solution will overcome convenience snacking challenges.”

Adding to the current awareness of environmental friendly products, both Coonlocken’s lid and folding spoon are 100% recyclable. They recently registered the design of all their lid and spoon combinations. Like these lids and spoons, many of Coonlocken’s products can also be applied by automated application.
