krill oilGlobal supplier of specialty lipid-based products and solutions, Enzymotec, have launched K•REAL® a low sodium, pure krill oil.

K•REAL® meets the criteria needed to make a ‘Low Sodium’ claim under the EU’s Nutrition & Health Claims Regulation.

Dietary supplement companies looking for an edge in the European market can now make a blood pressure-related health claim on their labels simply by incorporating the krill oil into their products.

Supplements containing K•REAL® can also carry the health claim: “Reducing consumption of sodium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood pressure”.

Dr Ariel Katz, President & CEO of Enzymotec, said: “This benefit is exclusive to K•REAL®. No other krill oil offers sodium levels as low as ours does, creating an opportunity for dietary supplement manufacturers and marketers to give their products a unique selling point that will be compelling to their consumers.”

High sodium intake is associated with higher blood pressure, which is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease, particularly strokes and heart attacks. Cutting back on sodium in the diet is a simple way to reduce the risk of heart disease.

K•REAL® is produced using Enzymotec’s proprietary MSO® (Multi-Stage Oil) extraction process. As well as resulting in lower sodium levels than other krill oils, this guarantees a high quality oil with superior organoleptic properties compared with other commercially available products.

K•REAL® krill oil offers better absorption of Omega 3 by the body than fish oil. This results in enhanced bio-efficiency, because more Omega 3 reaches the red blood cells, where it can target organs such as the brain, heart and liver.
