Carlsberg Group has announced a change in leadership for Carlsberg UK following the departure of chief executive James Lousada. He is succeeded on an interim basis by Michiel J Herkemij.

James Lousada has led Carlsberg UK since January 2014 and over the period has implemented a major transition within the company. In addition, he has re-launched the famous Carlsberg ‘probably’ campaign in the UK. Externally he has also represented Carlsberg UK and the group as a board member of both the British Beer & Pub Association, and of the Portman Group.

Michiel J Herkemij has extensive senior leadership experience in transforming companies around the world. His most recent assignments include CEO roles within British American Tobacco, Sara Lee and Heineken, working across several European countries including the UK, as well as in China, Nigeria and Mexico.

Jørn Tolstrup Rohde, senior vice president, Western Europe, Carlsberg, comments: “We thank James for all his efforts while leading Carlsberg UK through a period of many changes during the last two years. After careful evaluation we have decided a new type of leadership is required to take Carlsberg UK forward.”

James Lousada says: “The time is now right for a new direction within Carlsberg UK and to have a change in leadership to deliver that. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time leading a dedicated and committed team that strive every day to put the customer at the heart of everything they do.”

The search for a permanent CEO for Carlsberg UK will start immediately.

Carlsberg UK is one Britain’s largest beer and beverage companies. It operates a landmark brewery in Northampton, 12 Cask Marque accredited distribution depots across the UK and employs around 1,800 people.
