Monin unveils new low-calorie lemonade concentrate

Monin has presnted its summer drinks programme, at the heart of which is a new low-calorie cloudy lemonade concentrate that dilutes to produce a drink with as little as 67 calories.

The concentrate has been designed to capitalise on the growing popularity of handcrafted lemonades and fruit smoothies, Monin said. With a “fresh, homemade flavour profile”, the new product contains no artificial flavours or colours and is sweetened naturally with stevia. Its launch will help pubs, restaurants and cafés to maximise profits and create quick and cost-effective drinks that customers will love during the summer months.

Monin beverage innovation manager Lee Hyde said: “We know that there is huge consumer demand for ‘handcrafted’-style lemonades and smoothies versus canned or bottled drinks in the UK. Ten years ago, the iced beverage demographic was 16-24; those 16-24 year-olds are now 26-34 years old and still consuming these drinks, so we want to help independent cafés, restaurants and bars to take advantage of this demand and grow their bottom line.

“The Monin summer programme provides a host of tools to boost summer drinks menus, including recipes, flavour ideas, guidance on pricing, branded POS and the outstanding Monin product range.

“It’s so easy to create a classic, thirst-quenching lemonade. Simply dilute 40ml of Monin cloudy lemonade concentrate with 150ml of still or sparkling water and add ice to create a refreshing 12oz drink containing a few as 67 calories – less than half the amount in similar products on the market.

“Customise your lemonades with more than 100 Monin syrups and Le Fruit de Monin fruit purées, using on-trend flavours such as strawberry, passionfruit, yuzu and kiwi. Add fresh fruit and herb garnishes for additional premiumisation. With the average spend on iced drinks at £2.79, Monin cloudy lemonade concentrate represents up to 90% gross profit per 12oz drink, so it’s a winner on all counts.”
