German Initiative for Agribusiness and Nutrition in Emerging and Developing Countries (DIAE)
Wolfertschwenden, 09.07.2012 – MULTIVAC belongs to the founding members of the German Initiative for Agribusiness and Nutrition in Emerging and Developing Countries (DIAE), through which a large number of German companies, together with the German Institute for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), pledged themselves at the beginning of June to a joint international commitment to work for the security of food supplies in emerging and developing countries.

“Through the DIAE Initiative, the BMZ wants to promote the engagement and commitment of German companies in the agricultural sector of emerging and developing countries. We very much welcome this step and we are pleased to be among the founding members of this new form of partnership between the German Federal Government and industries in the agricultural and food processing sectors”, explains Christian Traumann, CFO at MULTIVAC Sepp Haggenmüller GmbH & Co.KG.

With its participation in the BMZ Initiative, MULTIVAC is continuing its social commitment to the improvement of the food supply situation in emerging and developing countries. Since 2010 the packaging machine manufacturer from the Allgäu region has supported the international SAVE FOOD Initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, which is committed to combating food wastage. Its participation in the DIAE Initiative now provides a further platform for the implementation of joint, long-term projects. MULTIVAC brings its expertise as a packaging specialist to the process. “Packaging technologies can help local food producers in emerging and developing countries to extend the shelf life of their products, to make them capable of being transported and to sell them to customers in the world market”, explains Traumann.

Thanks to the network of initiatives, the participating companies can coordinate strategic projects in emerging and developing countries and guide them to long-term success. Wherever possible, the DIAE Initiative will be involved in future as a strategic partner in bilateral measures in the agricultural and food processing sectors. The sponsor of the DIAE is the German Federal Development Minister, Dirk Niebel.
