New Microencapsulated Vitamin B Formulations for Hair and Nails

LycoRed, Israel, announces new formulations uniquely designed for hair and nail nutrition, based on vitamin B complex and amino acids. The systems, made with LycoRed’s proprietary microencapsulation technology, will be showcased at VitaFoods Geneva, May 22-24.

Adequate intake of essential nutrients such as B vitamins and amino acids, along with important antioxidants, helps to support beautiful hair, skin and nails. “Vitamin B complex is essential for correct RNA and DNA synthesis and cell reproduction,” explains Karina Bedrack, Sales Manager for LycoRed.” As our skin, hair and nails are constantly growing and renewing, we need to provide the adequate nutrition to our body, especially vitamins such as thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2) and biotin, plus choline, to maintain and recover hair and nails. This is especially true after a long and cold winter, which help leach these compounds from our body. Deficiencies of any of these nutrients can lead to loss of hair and weak, brittle nails.”

Combining different nutrients with diverse organoleptic properties in dietary supplements is not always easy, due to undesired aromas or flavours, such as with vitamin B1, methionine etc. It is essential to use microencapsulation technology for these ingredients in order to mask the unwanted aspects. Now, with LycoRed’s new formulations, the options for manufacturers are expanding. “With our advanced microencapsulation technology, it’s possible to mask negative odours and tastes in ‘beauty-from-within’ products that help maintain the vitality of hair and nails.” explains Bedrack. “The biggest challenge with vitamin B is being able to offer an odourless product. LycoRed has now overcome that challenge.”

As a highly innovative, research-driven company, LycoRed learned many people are aware of the benefits of vitamin B and amino acids as building blocks of hair protein and for protecting nails. These consumers are looking for a simple solution to supplement their diets. LycoRed’s microencapsulation lets beauty-from-within providers offer this benefit by giving manufacturers of dietary supplements the ability to create a high-quality product that appeals to consumers. Microencapsulation dramatically improves the flowability and direct-compressible nature of B Vitamins amino acids. The highly hygroscopic nature of amino acids further highlights the benefit of LycoRed’s technology to enhance flowability and thus prevent loss of product during manufacturing. The product is stable in both tablet and hard-shell capsules.

LycoRed is a science-based company with regional facilities in the U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific and Israel. It supplies natural carotenoids and a wide range of other natural nutritional and colouring ingredients to the dietary supplement, functional food & beverage and nutricosmetic industries worldwide.
