Lycored has highlighted the importance of keeping things simple when developing and marketing nutrition products to consumers.

The company, which supplies ingredient formulations based on natural carotenoids such as lycopene, says that successful dietary supplements all have one thing in common – a distinct wellness benefit that is clearly communicated.

Tal Offer, Product Manager for Dietary Supplement Technologies at Lycored, said: “The growth of the nutrition market has opened up numerous opportunities but at the same time it means the market is now more complex than ever before. Consumers are bombarded with so many messages about what they should be eating that it has become confusing. They’re looking for clear and straightforward solutions to help them manage their health, and selecting an ingredient with a well defined benefit to use in your nutrition product is a key part of tapping into this need.”

Exhibiting on Stand F57 at Vitafoods Europe, Lycored is showcasing two natural ingredient formulations that offer targeted benefits in dietary supplements:

  • Cardi-O-Mato™ – a standardised tomato extract for cardiovascular health that has been the subject of more than 15 studies. It protects the heart in three different ways: by preserving the lining of the artery walls, maintaining a healthy blood pressure and by reducing levels of oxidised LDL cholesterol, which is LDL that has reacted with oxidants and leads to tissue damage.
  • Lyc-O-Derm™ – a potent formulation for skin health that offers a combination of carnosic acid from rosemary and lycopene, phytoene and phytofluene from a skin-grade tomato nutrient extract. This orally ingested ingredient complex is formulated to protect the skin from sun-induced DNA damage from the inside out, providing total body protection. This will be the first appearance for Lyc-O-Derm™ in Europe following a successful US launch.

Tal added: “Our philosophy is that nutrition is not complicated – for us it is natural. Our branded ingredients offer clearly defined benefits, supported by clinical studies, which creates the perfect environment for developing dietary supplements that will stand out among the competition and resonate with consumers. It’s never been more important to appeal to shoppers in a straightforward and uncomplicated way, and Lycored’s natural ingredient formulations make it really easy for manufacturers and brand owners to signpost the benefits of their products and drive new and repeat sales.”

Vitafoods Europe takes place at the Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, from 5-7 May 2015. Visit Lycored on Stand F57.
