5-7 September 2012, AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong

An outline of the regulatory situation and key opportunities in the Chinese functional food market will be delivered at Vitafoods Asia, which takes place from 5-7 September, when Gao Peng, Secretary-General of Consultation Committee at the China Health Care Association, delivers a keynote speech at the show’s Seminar Theatre.

The line-up of leading experts due to speak at the free Seminar Theatre, which is sponsored by DSM Nutritional Products, will present informative sessions on new research and developments. This will form part of a packed programme of educational features providing manufacturers of dietary supplements and functional foods with the latest insights into the nutraceutical industry.

“The Seminar Theatre will build on the great success of last year’s event, providing cutting-edge insights from some of the most forward-thinking people in the nutraceuticals industry,” says Vitafoods Portfolio Director Chris Lee.

“From regulation and trends to the latest product information, the Seminar Theatre will cover the key issues that will prove essential for any business operating in the Asian nutraceuticals market.”

Other keynote speakers include Ling Wen Hua, from the Chinese Nutrition Society and Katrina Diamonon, Senior Analyst at DatamonitorAustralia, who will discuss 10 trends to watch in consumer-driven packaging innovation. This will outline how consumer needs translate into packaging innovation opportunities and explore the future direction of packaging information, design and formats for functional foods.

Another keynote speech will be delivered by professor Nagendra Shah, from the Hong Kong Food Science and Technology Association, who will deliver a talk on bioactive peptides liberation.

There will also be speakers delivering product presentations, including Dan Souza, Sr. Director of Sales and Marketing for Decas Botanical Synergies, LLC, who will explore the cranberry health claims landscape, looking at the latest science and substantiation of cranberry claims, including the fruit’s urinary tract health benefits and delivering an effective dose of cranberry to deliver these.

Jacob Bauly, Global Marketing Manager, DSM Nutritional Products, will deliver a presentation on nutritional solutions for relaxation, sleep and mental energy. This will outline how, while the pressures of work and family life have led to many consumers relying on products that provide mental energy, products positioned towards relaxation and sleep offer an interesting alternative. The talk will also explain how a high proportion of people suffer anxiety and difficulty falling asleep but the market meeting this consumer need is underdeveloped.

There will also be an outline of the most common misconceptions around probiotics delivered by Charlotte Beyerholm, Chr.Hansen Marketing Manager, and Sune Schmoelker Chr.Hansen APAPMEA Sales Director.

Dr Anneli Tarpila, Clinical Trial Manager, DuPont Nutrition & Health will outline the role good bacteria can play in protecting against colds and flu. This will provide details on how HOWARU® Protect may have a positive impact on adults fighting symptoms of the common cold.

Meanwhile, Polly Olson, Vice President of New Business, Sales and Marketing at Davisco Foods International, Inc, will deliver a talk on whey protein, including how it can be used in a daily diet, why not all types are the same, the market outlook and an outline of functional foods and drinks trends.

The line up of fascinating speakers is helping to build on the great success of last year’s debut show, with the 2012 edition of Vitafoods Asia projected to be double the size.

The event is due to play host to more than 150 global suppliers of ingredients and raw materials for nutraceuticals, dietary supplements and functional foods and drinks, including DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific, Croda, Danisco (UK) Ltd, Chr. Hansen A/S and Glanbia Nutritionals Singapore Pte Ltd.
