Grocery retailer Morrisons plans to become the UK’s largest fresh food manufacturer. New plans include a £21 million investment to increase the company’s capacity at its abattoir in Colne, Lancashire.

UK meat processor Cranswick increased pre-tax profit by 8% to £47.1m for the year ended March 31st 2011 on underlying sales ahead by 4% to £758m with volumes up 6%.
