The Brand & Design Village at PACKAGING INNOVATIONS London (4 & 5 October 2012) is set to play host to the best agencies in the business. The focused hub, at the Business Design Centre London, offers a unique chance for people to discuss their full packaging needs – from concept to creation.

Supported by the Design Business Association, the Brand & Design Village has become recognised as a key event within the sector attracting visitors from companies like Debenhams, Estée Lauder, Waitrose, Tesco and JML.

First time exhibitors, Berry Place (Stand GB8) have been ‘making ideas take shape’ since 1990 whether it’s handmade hampers for Harrods, a bespoke brand marketing pack for Dewar’s whisky or vacuum formed PETG blister packaging with digital print Panasonic’s rechargeable battery charger. They will be showcasing a collection of projects, as well as displaying their latest technology and services. David Austen, Managing Director at Berry Place, says: “Berry Place brings a wealth of experience to packaging development and design. We are excited to be exhibiting at the show and looking forward to building new relationships.”

Smallfry (Stand GB9) will help you develop good ideas into great products and services. Having combined strategy and design for over 40 years to help clients like M&S, the NHS, P&G, Unilever and Adidas, Smallfry certainly know a thing or two about design, and will be demonstrating their design-thinking tool – Created Futures™.

Steve May-Russell, Managing Director at Smallfry, comments: “Some clients want help with idea generation, others have an abundance of ideas, but need impartial help deciphering the ‘right’ ones to develop. Created Futures™ allows us to tailor our assistance to their requirements. Our ideas filtering process provides focus and rigour, so that ideas are evaluated consistently and strategically against key success criteria.

“By understanding market contexts, trends and uncovering real customer needs we can create relevant innovation roadmaps on which we plot commercially viable ideas, defining clients’ New Product Development pipelines within short, medium and long-term timeframes.”

Branded packaging specialist Path (Stand GB3) will be showcasing the relaunch of the much-loved cooking sauce, Chicken Tonight. The new branding and packaging was designed to re-engage with busy Mums shopping for the family. Path abandoned the plated meal cliché on pack, preferring to highlight the vibrant ingredients, the brand and the benefits.

Path also helped Ragu, recapture its Italian-American heritage with a new design, also on display at the show. Tom Herman, Partner at Path, said: “People have affection for and understand the significance of Ragu’s heritage: seventy-five years based on an authentic Italian-American recipe. To communicate that, we’ve worked to find and tell great stories which will connect with consumers and help them appreciate that Ragu just loves making pasta sauce. The approach is to infuse that passion and evoke the senses. We are conveying that Ragu is traditional and relevant – a great modern classic which offers good honest value.”

Kre8ive Partners (Stand GB12) will be showcasing their latest design work for Goldenfry Foods, who wanted to rebrand their company logo and packaging range, to create a modern, clean look for their brand and to have a bold, new style designed for their packaging that would increase brand recognition and shelf presence.

Mark Turner, Creative Director at Kre8ive Partners, comments: “For the Goldenfry logo rebrand, we re-mastered the original hand-drawn type and created a holding device to allow the logo to be used as an integral part of the packaging, but still retain its own brand identity. To ensure brand recognition among Goldenfry’s existing customer base, the traditional red and yellow of the brand were kept, but we enriched the colours to give a more quality feel to reflect the family values of the Goldenfry brand.”

The Gravy Powder is the first of the new packs to launch in-store, and can be found exclusively at Morrisons. Goldenfry plans to roll out the new style of packaging across their many ranges including Gravy Granules, Batter Mixes and Cake Mixes.

Also exhibiting in the Brand & Design Village, will be NJD Creative (Stand GB4), NJD Creative produce high quality packaging mock-ups for all marketing applications, direct from the supplied digital artwork with the option of metallics, selective whites and a scannable barcode. While those in the healthcare sector should check out Pillbox Design (Stand GB6) an independent packaging design and consultancy service, who specialise in the design of pharmaceutical packaging and pillboxes for the medical and healthcare sectors.
