US-based Mead Johnson Nutrition, one of the world’s leading baby food companies, is to build a new manufacturing and technology centre in Singapore. The project is the biggest capital expenditure in the company’s history and is needed to support future growth in its fast-growing business across the Asia region. The total project cost of $325 million is comprised of $300 million in capital spending and $25 million in expenses. The plant is expected to be fully operational in mid-2014.

“The new facility is needed to meet future demand for Mead Johnson products and will enable us to better serve our customers across Asia. This significant investment includes the company’s first spray dryer in Asia, which will strengthen our regional supply chain and help improve our overall operating efficiency,” saus Jeffrey Jobe, senior vice president – Global Supply Chain at Mead Johnson Nutrition. “Demand for our products across Asia has been increasing at a double-digit rate for the past decade, and future prospects remain strong.”

Mead Johnson, a global leader in pediatric nutrition, develops, manufactures, markets and distributes more than 70 products in over 50 markets worldwide. The Mead Johnson name has been associated with science-based pediatric nutrition products for over 100 years.
