Around 40% of Norwegian consumers agree with the statement that industrially produced food is unhealthy, according to the results of a survey conducted by Kantar TNS on behalf of Orkla. Nine out of 10 think that the food they prepare themselves is better than industrially produced food, while close to half think that the industry tries to deceive consumers.

“Unfortunately, the results show that the myths about industrially produced food are still flourishing. However, good, healthy food is not a question of the size of the pot, it’s about the ingredients that you put in it. Just as there is healthy and unhealthy industrial food, there is also healthy and unhealthy home-made food,” says Orkla President and CEO Peter A. Ruzicka.

The survey was carried out among a representative sample of the Norwegian population. In brief, the results show the following:

* 87% of the respondents agree that the food they prepare themselves is better than industrially produced food (54% agree completely). Only 3% think that the food made by industrial producers is better than the food they make themselves.

* 48% agree with the statement that the industry tries to deceive consumers (12% agree completely). More men than women think this is the case.

* 42% agree that industrially produced food is unhealthy (7% agree completely). More women than men think this is the case.

Orkla is a leading supplier of branded consumer goods and concept solutions to the grocery, out-of-home and bakery markets in the Nordics, Baltics and selected markets in Central Europe and India. Orkla is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and its head office is in Oslo. In 2016, the group had a turnover of approximately NOK38 billion, and 18,000 employees at year end.
