Four major drinks brands have signed up to the Courtauld Commitment, taking the total number of major UK brands, suppliers and retailers to 53 signatories. Carlsberg UK, Nestle Waters UK, PLB Group and Typhoo are the latest UK companies pledging to take resource efficiency measures by signing up to the second phase of the Courtauld Commitment this year.

The voluntary agreement is run by waste advisory body WRAP, to support businesses to improve their overall performance and reduce their environmental impact.

Momentum for the Courtauld Commitment remains strong with an additional 17 signatories having signed up in the last year to support three sector targets associated with food and drink waste and packaging, across the UK grocery retail supply chain.

Courtauld Commitment signatories represent the vast majority of leading brands purchased by UK shoppers, which offers huge potential for reducing waste across theUK.

The three Courtauld targets are:

* To reduce the carbon impact of grocery packaging by 10% by reducing the weight, increasing recycling rates and increasing the recycled content of all grocery packaging

* To reduce household food and drink wastes by 4%

* To reduce traditional grocery product and packaging waste in the grocery supply chain by 5%.
