Frutarom Switzerland Ltd. launches a comprehensive portfolio of ingredients for the immune health market. This comprises of a number of innovative ingredients for daily support of the immune system.

According to Innova Market insights data, immune health was the 2nd leading positioning for new tracked global supplement launches (Jan-Dec, 2011), accounting for 19.8 % of claims, even ahead of heart health (16.0 %).

“Our goal at Frutarom is to provide our customers with a comprehensive panel of natural solutions to target a range of immune health concerns, and not to focus on just one aspect of this category,” explains Adeline Prévost, Ph.D., Product Manager for Frutarom Health. “Our strategy is to offer specific solutions for key health indications, rather than simply sell a catalogue of miscellaneous ingredients. All Frutarom products are versatile enough to allow the creation of custom-designed formulations.”

Frutarom’s new line is designed around the three key stages connected to immune health and helps provide extensive support to consumers for the following indications:

• Prevention against infection and re-infection

• Infection fighting

• Recovery and relief (designed to relieve common symptoms of cold and flu)

Each ingredient was selected for its specific activity, such as antiviral, antimicrobial or cold and flu relief.

The new Frutarom immune health portfolio includes highly bioavailable forms of minerals such as copper and zinc that have already gained EFSA claim approval for immune health support. Furthermore, Echinacea and Pelargonium-based ingredients are included, both proprietary herbal extracts, which are scientifically supported for effectiveness. Echinacea EFLA®894, supported by clinical studies, is a dry pressed herb juice traditionally used as an immune tonic and to treat cough and cold symptoms. Pelargonium EFLA®956, a root extract from Pelargonium sidoides DC, is a safe and effective product that can help speed recovery from cold and flu while reducing the severity and duration of the associated symptoms. Both are produced in Frutarom’s Swiss facility, under strict PIC-GMP certification guidelines and in line with ecological principles.

“Our product line can be used in different mix-and-match applications to allow the creation of unique formulations designed for specific needs or specific targeted markets,” adds Prévost. “Nearly all the ingredients are available as water-soluble powders and contain minimal or no amounts of carrier. They are suitable for use in a wide range of possible finished dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals, such as tablets, softgels and syrups, but also bars, shots, candies etc. Frutarom will showcase some of its latest research findings at VitaFoods Europe, Geneva, booth No. 2134 and invites Vitafoods visitors to its taste bar to experience a variety of product applications based on these ingredients.”

Frutarom actively implements a successful, rapid-growth strategy combining above-industry-average organic growth of its core activities together with strategic acquisitions of synergetic companies and activities.

Frutarom’s vision is to become the preferred partner for tasty and healthy success, reflecting its commitment to deliver the most flavorful and healthful solutions to customers. Frutarom sees research and innovation as a core competency and its global R&D team benefits from a wealth of experience accumulated over 75 years, as well as the advantage of a broad range of in-house raw materials, and close collaborations with universities, research institutes and start-ups.
