Following the completion of a consultation period, Bakkavor Group has confirmed the closure of its Freshcook meals facility at Holbeach St Marks, Lincolnshire. The site will cease to operate from 29 April 2019.

Management reviewed a number of different options to improve the performance of the loss-making site but unfortunately concluded that this business is no longer commercially viable. All weekly paid employees have been offered the opportunity to take alternative operational roles across Bakkavor’s other nearby Lincolnshire sites.

Bakkavor is the leading provider of fresh prepared food in the UK, with a growing international presence in the United States and China. The group is the number one by market share in the UK in the four product categories of meals, salads, desserts and pizza & bread. Its customers include some of the UK’s leading grocery retailers, including Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

Headquartersed in London, Bakkavor employs 20,000 people and operates 25 factories in the UK, five in the US and nine in China.
