Mahou San Miguel, the Spanish-owned family brewer that is leader in the beer market in Spain, has reported an 11.5% increase in operating profit to €187.4 million for 2015 and a 2.1% rise in turnover to €1.178 billion, to register its best revenue figure in the last five years. Sales volume increased by 3.2% to 15.5 million hectolitres, of which 13.3 million hectolitres correspond to beer, and 2.2 million hectolitres to water and soft drinks.

Mahou San Miguel increased its turnover and profitability for the second year in a row and recorded growth in all its business lines. The business in Spain grew by 1.1% in net sales, and the international business by 5.5%, water and soft drinks by 16.3% and logistical services by 10.8%.

Outside Spain, Mahou San Miguel increased its business by 5.5% on the previous year, closing the year at €79 million with more than 2 million hectolitres sold, accounting for 15% of the company’s total volume of beer. These figures confirm the sound trend in a business that has grown by over 50% in the last four years.

“Our values, strategy and very healthy brands provide a unique and distinctive positioning for Mahou San Miguel within the global beer industry, thanks to our brewing expertise backed by 125 years of history and innovation, our financial strength and our flexibility,” comments Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero, chief executive of Mahou San Miguel. “We are already present in more than 70 countries on five continents and produce more than 70% of the Spanish beer drunk around the world.”

Of particular note in Mahou San Miguel’s international expansion has been the purchase of 30% of the North American microbrewer Founders, which has bolstered its presence in a booming segment, and its growing consolidation in the Indian market, where it has had a subsidiary since 2014.
