The Danish company, DK-Konfekture from Herlev, is a new customer of Nagel Danmark, a subsidiary of the Nagel-Group. The food logistics specialist has taken over the warehouse management and order picking as well as the transport and distribution in Denmark for the confectionery distributorship, whose customers include renowned manufacturers such as Ritter Sport, Katjes and Fazer.

“The product experience and expertise in the sector resulting from Nagel’s existing co-operation with Ritter Sport and other confectionery manufacturers were decisive in the awarding of the contract. Moreover, the company was able to arrange a dedicated warehouse exclusively for confectionery at short notice in accordance with our guidelines” says Dan Kongstedt, the founder and managing director of DK-Konfekture.

After awarding the contract in mid-December, Nagel Danmark was consequently able to start the operational implementation as early as the beginning of 2015. The current annual amount of 23,000 pallets will be processed in Padborg, the headquarters of Nagel Danmark. Around 3,000 square metres of warehousing space with a temperature range of plus 12 to 15 degrees will be used there for the task.

“Our remit also includes packing and co-packing,” explains Kim Gravesen, the CEO of Nagel Danmark. In practice, the confectionery – chocolate, sweets, lollies, liquorice – is registered at inbound goods, repacked onto quarter or full pallets for different customers depending on the campaign, film wrapped and labelled appropriately. After that, the picked sweets are distributed via daily scheduled traffic. Up to 85% of the consignees are wholesalers while around 15% of the volume goes to the retail sector.

To this end, Nagel Danmark can draw upon an effective network. The company is represented by two sites and three depots in Denmark and offers more than 47,000 square metres of warehousing space in total in the fresh, ultra-fresh, frozen and ambient temperature ranges. In addition to 500 trailers, the fresh goods logistics specialist has its own trucks, of which 45 are deployed nationally and 95 internationally on a daily basis. At the same time, the Padborg site serves as a central transshipment warehouse, a hub in the Nagel-Group network at which national and international traffic converges. These distribution structures also won over DK-Konfekture.

Dan Kongstedt continues: “Our customers are very pleased with the on schedule delivery. Everything is working smoothly.” The flexibility and dedication of the Nagel employees and also the intensive IT support in the start and build-up phase have contributed to this.

Based in Versmold, Germany, the Nagel-Group is a leading specialist for food logistics operating throughout Europe and employing more than 11,000 people at 100 locations in 16 countries. The group moves food consignments of all sizes and in all temperature ranges.
